Join us at the Hanover Farmers' Market as Berkley Heath demonstrates the art of natural hand dyeing.

The Howe Library is sponsoring a series of local artists and artisans demonstrating their work at the Hanover Farmers' Market this summer.  Look for them next to the Howe Library tent, they will be happy to talk with you about their work.  And then stop by and say hello to us as well!  This week Berkley Heath will be demonstrating the art of natural hand dyeing.

The Hanover Farmers' Market runs 4-7 every Wednesday at Richmond Middle School from June 2 through September 29.  Visit our Farmers' Market page for a full list of artisans, family performances, and world music concerts we're sponsoring at the Market this summer.  For more information, email jared.jenisch@thehowe.org.

I am a lifelong artist fascinated by the sources of the materials in our daily lives. My work in organic agriculture and herbalism led me to discover natural dyeing, and I began studying traditional surface design techniques to incorporate my printmaking practice into my love of natural colors. Natural dyeing is an incredible confluence of so many of my interests, from plant biology and organic chemistry, to design and ethnobotany, and I feel passionate about sharing this craft with others. I believe that physical interaction with the landscape facilitates a sense of place, wellbeing, and stewardship of our natural world.
